Current dyno results on the ZRX 1200

The bike was placed on the dyno this morning here are the results. Max power is now at 127.4.

The green line is from the last dyno run when the bike had Ivan's jet kit, modified airbox, and Kerker street baffle.

The bike now has:

* K&N POD Filters

* Ivan's jet kit for PODS

* 140 Keihin main jets

* Needles at 3rd clip one washer below

* Float heights set at 19.5mm (which put the fuel level in each carb about 1mm above the carb body/float bowl mating surface) Actually carbs one and two were right at/even with the carb bowl mating surfaces while carbs three and four were 1mm above. I got tired of messing with it.

* 38 Keihin pilot jets

* fuel screws at 3 1/2 - 3/4 turns out

* Kerker meg - street baffle packed firmly with Silent Sport brand muffler packing - larger diameter race baffle end cap.

Dyno results and a picture of the bike:

That's pretty good results for a Kerker.

38 pilots @ 3 3/4 turns out is way fat normally. Something seems out of whack with that.

It might make a few more ponies or less without the advancer? I did a little searching and I think the consensus is that the advancer may decrease power on anything other than a stock ZRX?

Thanks for the offer brother. I am not going to dyno it anytime soon. I'm done with it for now just going to see how it runs during the summer. I may swap out the 140's for 138's in the summer depends on how it runs. Right now it runs extremely well. I took it for a ride the day before yesterday out on the interstate about halfway to Columbia and back. The midrange is sweet on these bikes. Just riding on a huge wave of wave of torque - love it!

Kevin, there at KWS is a cool guy. Although they do not work with carbed bikes there at his shop anymore - I could tell he really likes these ZRX's.

That is correct, at least with regard to comparison between stock and the typical piped/jetted mods.

I couldn't find the "results thread" but a back to back comparo was done at the National Rally in Eureka Springs on a piped/jetted Rex, and advancing the timing resulted in a drop of about 4 to 5 peak HP.

Interesting. At some point I plan to change out these bronze covers for black ones. I still have the stock advancer in storage. I think I'll put that in there and see how the bike feels.

With a big tube full exhaust you'll make about 130-132hp. With the small tube Kerker, that's about all you'll get.

I'm good. As it stands it is a healthy bike with plenty of power and torque for the street. All I plan to do to it other than the engine covers is keep up on the maintenance and ride it.

Re: Current dyno results on the ZRX 1200

Not to bring up an old thread, but I was intrigued to read that an ignition advancer on a piped/jetted REX might actually cause a loss of power.

I've got a full Muzzy system and jets and after putting in the advancer, I didn't feel any kind of "totally woken up motor" like so many claim in the advancer thread. Maybe it's just me, but maybe it's also actually caused that slight loss of power?

One thing I do know is that since putting it in, if I'm at low-ish RPM in say 4th or 5th and I give it a healthy amount of throttle, the bike now shutters until it's picked up enough RPM whereas before with the stock advancer, it just seemed to charge ahead without any hiccup.

What do you guys think? Am I actually better off with the stock advancer? It just sucks to read this here instead of in the advancer thread where so many guys swear by the things. I'm not calling "false advertisement", but it just sucks that I may have spent money on a mod that actually hurts performance...

Re: Current dyno results on the ZRX 1200

you can make more with the kerker . my average was 132 Hp 84 tq advancer , pods , RACE BAFFLE . DJ kit , 145 Kehin mains , 35 pilots , 4th clip with washer under to make 4.5 clip position .

Same bike motor build , same jetting , cams , base gasket removed , advancer , head work , ZX 11 box/valve springs made 144.5 Hp

All above with FCR 39mm carbs made 150.45 Hp 87 tq

Lose the Ivans and pick up fuel millage with HP @ 150 hp 17/42 gearing still got 50 plus crusing . All ivans users i know/met are lucky to get mid 30's mpg

Re: Current dyno results on the ZRX 1200

I may mod some more later yet right now it is running so well I do not want to mess with it. I'll post back later on the gas mileage the bike is now getting. It currently has 16/42 final drive gearing. It used to get an average of 40 miles to the gallon with a combination of hwy/city driving.

*40 miles to the gallon was when it had Ivan's regular jet kit with modifed airbox. 17/42 gearing.

Here is a link to the original dyno test I had done on the bike
